The STT is carried out by inserting an absorbent paper test strip amongst the reduce eyelid and cornea and measuring the length of strip that absorbs humidity in 1 moment. The result is then in contrast with established normal values.  The Schirmer tearing eye test includes the simultaneous testing of the tearing potential of both of those eyes
